![]() Perhaps not the most typical choice, but seeing as half the kitchen staff were Chinese, and one of them recommended that flavour based on Cantonese cooking, I couldn’t help myself. ![]() The spicy garlic wasn’t very spicy however, the chunks of chopped garlic, combined with the warm shrimp and the fluffy white rice made this dish very tender. I tasted the spicy garlic, the ginger shrimp, and the cold, boiled shrimp – all the better to be able to measure the sweetness of the shrimp in their truest form. The shrimp options at Fumi’s are: original, butter garlic, lemon pepper, hot & spicy, coconut, tempura, spicy garlic, salt & pepper, ginger, and boiled shrimp with tartare sauce. Other places serve macaroni salad to complement the shrimp, but at Fumi’s, the white rice is perfect for soaking up the sauce from the shrimp. Served on Styrofoam containers for take-away orders, they all include two scoops of white rice, a green salad, and a few pieces of fresh pineapple. There are eight different flavour combinations for the way you want your shrimp cooked. The menu at Fumi’s, like most shrimp stops in Oahu, is pretty simple. There’s also a separate window that sells corn on the cob and shaved ice, in true Hawaiian style. This canteen has a shrimp farm in the back, where it literally produces most of the food it serves. These locations are ideal for simple, flavoursome lunches when road tripping in Oahu.Īs part of a guided tour, our designated stop was Fumi’s Shrimp Stop. As the shrimp trucks grew in popularity, among locals and tourists alike, several shrimp shacks began to establish themselves along the highway. Oahu’s North Shore is famous for its food trucks, especially the shrimp trucks. The first place was in the North Shore of Oahu, in Kahuku to be precise. Two particular outings left a mark on me. Later on Plot and Duck will hook up and go looking for more cheap Aloha shirts and a Hawaiian plate lunch - meat and three, Chef P, Aloha style. On a recent trip to Hawaii, where there’s no shortage of good food, and where there is tons of fusion, I had the opportunity to be introduced to some delightful grindz (the Hawaiian word for food). She's done with that part and can stop popping the di-gel. Bad bread, bad salad, the meal started out with a whimper, but ended with a big loud bang.ĭuck just called -her speech went well. Plot and Duck started to laugh, but not Glowery Gussie. When the assistant waitress (as dour as her superior was hyper) brought the Ceasar Salad, split in two portions, each portion had exactly two (2) leaves of Romaine on each plate. Still, it was a relief that the entrees were delicious, because the 'fresh bread, hot from the oven' was tasteless and the 'whipped Creamery butter' was margarine, no matter what the obnoxious waitress with the Hydromatic smile stuck in overdrive ("Are we having a yummy scrumptiousy dinner hah ho hyuk?") said. Plotnik's swordfish was delicious but the ahi took home the prize. They take the best ahi tuna and manage to grill it for maybe five seconds, then slice it to look like a rib lamb chop, complete with a piece of bamboo for the 'bone,' then slap it all around a mound of Maui-Onion mashed potatoes, that's Maui-Onion mashed potatoes. Plotnik sat by himself at a table doing his kanji homework when he couldn't bear to look at the screen.Įver hear of Ahi Tuna Chops? They do them at the Outrigger Hotel in back of the Tiki Torches. Everyone in Round Table Pizza was a Florida Gator fan - many cheers with many beers. ![]() The next few hours were truly wasted - watching bad Bruin basketball and hearing bad news about all local baseball teams. The good news is he didn't go far before he realized it and went back and got them. That's the bad news - that he has no brain. IDIOT! Plotnik left his camera and his journal in the rental car door when he returned it. (Plot is afraid the picture you're looking at is actually the beach NEXT to Lanikai Beach - hey, it was unmarked.) Afterwards, they drove back to Waikiki to return the car. They then continued down the Windward Coast towards Lanikai Beach, which Plotnik managed to find despite many streets destroyed by rain and busted water mains and detours and DO NOT ENTERS. ![]() Ducknik and Plotnik drove by, saw the sign, saw the truck, saw the pond, screeched to a halt, and split a plate of spicy shrimp and rice where the shrimp were pulled right out of the pond. This is the fantastic Fumi's Kahuku Shrimp Truck that is parked next to the shrimp farm pond in Kahuku.
